A collection of works from aorund Europe

About the Collection.

A seris of black and white ink drawings of UK landscapes.

St. Mark’s cathedral, Venice

(Pen and watercolour wash)

This was done when I was cycling in Italy. One of my stops was Florence and I remembered from another visit a few years before what a terrific view there is of the city from this little church. I did it in two sections, which were joined together on the computer when I got home.

St. Peter’s, Rome

(Pen and watercolour wash)

Another sketch from my Italian cycle trip. It was still raining, and I had to shelter under a colonnade. A queue of tourists was still collecting to go inside.

Carvouero, Portugal

(Watercolour)

My brother, Tony, has an apartment there, and he asked me if I could paint a view of the town. This is it, done on the spot. My bike proved useful, once again, to get there from Faro airport.

The Colosseum, Rome

(Pen and watercolour)

This was sone on the same bike ride. It was a peculiar day, because it was raining, and I took shelter under a nearby tree, from where I still had a decent view. A traffic jam had just begun to build up.

Il Duomo, Florence

(Pen and watercolour)

Another sketch from my Italian cycle trip. This was done crammed into a doorway down a narrow alley. It was the only place I could find where I had a view of Brunelleschi’s dome.

Piazza Signoria, Florence

(Pen and watercolour)

From my Italian cycle trip too. Early in the morning. These folk were just finishing their breakfast and the first tourists were congregating beneath Michelangelo’s ‘David’

Roofs of Dubrovnik

(Watercolour)

A view from the walls of this remarkable city.

Florence from San Miniato al Monte

(Pen and watercolour)

Towneley Hall, Burneley. Formerly property of the Towneley family, now managed by Burnley Borough Council, this Elizabethan mansion (reflected in the lake in front of it) looks over its wide parkland, which is now open for the public to enjoy.

The Alhambra palace, Granada, Spain

(Pen and watercolour)

Done on the last day in Budapest while on a European train tour. I had my folding bike with me, and just had time to do this and then cycle at top speed to the station to catch the train to Vienna.

The Grand Harbour, Valletta

(Pen and ink)

From the balcony of the hotel room we were staying in. This was the first thing I did when we got there. It was marvellous to have the opportunity to draw such a historic place.

Budapest from the castle

(Pen and watercolour)

Done on the last day in Budapest while on a European train tour. I had my folding bike with me, and just had time to do this and then cycle at top speed to the station to catch the train to Vienna.
